Antalya 2010: Family friendly, Smoke free, Green congress

Image

Family friendly: ECSS 2010 Congress welcomes all participants with their families. In Antalya, we will have special programs not only for the accompanying persons but also for the kids of all ages. The accompanying persons program will include two half day tours – visiting the most highlighted destinations of Antalya and shopping opportunities as well as participation to the social events of the congress (welcome & closing receptions).

Kids from all ages will be cared as special guests. Daycare and baby sitter options will be available in congress venue for the participants with young children. Every hotel announced in accommodation alternatives of ECSS 2010 is chosen carefully considering bigger kids entertainments (pools, kids clubs, aqua parks…) The daily tours will be free of charge for children 12 years old or younger when they are accompanying their parents. The children seats will be available at shuttle services and tour buses (please book in advance).

Smoke free: Smoking is prohibited by law in closed areas (including busses, restaurants, cafes’ etc.) in Turkey. As sport scientists we promote and provide a smoke-free congress to our participants. All our events including tours and shuttle services will be smoke-free. For the facts of smoking you may visit http://dccps.nci.nih.gov/TCRB/Smoking_Facts/facts.html and http://www.smoking-facts.net/.

Green congress: Each of us leaves a carbon dioxide ‘footprint’ that contributes to the ‘greenhouse effect’. In ECSS 2010, we aim limiting the carbon footprint that our event leaves behind. With this purpose, the minimum number of printed materials will be produced. We encourage our participants to use the online registration and reservation systems as a total paperless and planet friendly. Separate recycling bins will be available for attendees to use at all catered functions, registration and especially on the exhibit floor.
Almost all participants attending the ECSS 2010 Antalya congress will take a round-trip flight. The approximate carbon footprint of a flight from Europe and Japan is 2500 lbs (10 Euro) and 8350 lbs (35 Euro), respectively. We promote participants planting trees to offset their footprints. To offset the carbon footprint of the local organizers, volunteers and congress staff we will be planting trees via TEMA (Turkish Foundation of Planting Trees, Fighting Erosion and Protecting the Nature).
