An author may submit a maximum of two abstracts as first author (only one of these abstracts can be submitted in the preferred format of oral presentation). The submitted abstract must be presented at the congress by the first author. It is possible to appear as co-author on other abstracts. Please note that after your submission further changes cannot be accepted.
Import information: Congress registration for the first author is obligatory before 1st May 2012
Abstract
The Abstract must be typed into the Abstract Submission Form. Abstracts are restricted to 3000 characters (including spaces, title, authors and institutions). It may not contain any tables or graphs and is restricted to ASCII-characters only**. Please note, that an abstract prepared in a program like Windows Word may contain non-ASCII characters.
References in the text have to be cited at the end of the abstract (they must fit in the 3000 characters). All content of the abstract is in the sole responsibility of the author(s) of the abstract. You can preview the abstract during the submission process. Abstracts will be printed exactly as they appear in the preview. Only at this stage editing of your abstract will be possible. The receipt of your abstract submission will be confirmed by e-mail.
All accepted abstracts will be published in the proceedings of the 17th Annual Congress of the ECSS, preconditioned the first author is registered.
** = Hint: To make sure your abstract only contains ASCII characters, copy-paste the text first to a text-editor like Windows Notepad, then "Save As..." and set Encoding to "ANSI".
Example: Please find an abstract submission example here.
Reviewing
All abstracts will be reviewed by Scientific Committees, which will make recommendations as to the type of presentation (oral or e-poster).
The author may state preference for the type of presentation (oral or e-poster). The final decision however lies upon the Scientific Committees.
Presentation
Presenters (= first authors) must be registered for the congress at the latest by 1st May 2012 to guarantee publication of the abstract in the proceedings. Later registrations will lead to an exclusion of the abstract.
Oral presentation format is PowerPoint. Oral presentation time will be 10 minutes plus 5 minutes of discussion. Oral presentations must be pre-uploaded in the Speakers Ready Room afore.
ePoster Submission
Electronic Submission of e-posters to the ECSS Bruges 2012
E-Poster submission opens 1st of June.
Important notice: The deadline for submitting your e-poster is June 15th 2012. If you miss this deadline, you will not be able to present you eposter in Bruges!
Please read carefully the instructions below regarding the creation and submission of your e-poster.
Wishing to use modern, environmentally friendly technologies, in this year’s Congress all posters will be presented electronically, as e-posters. Therefore, there will be no need for printing, carrying and pinning posters in the conference area.
1. Creation of your e-poster with PowerPoint or any other software, to be transferred to PDF.
These instructions are written for PowerPoint, but are applicable to any other software you may wish to use. Use PowerPoint 2003 or newer, and set the dimensions of your poster to: 140 cm (55 in) width x 79 (31 in) cm height, in landscape orientation.
- Number of pages (slides): one (1).
- E-Poster file size is a max of 2 MB.
- Make sure your text and background have a large contrast.
- Minimum suggested font size: 24 (20 for references).
- For embedded images prefer .jpeg or .png file formats in a resolution of 72 or 96 dpi.
- Do not use animated effects, “animations” and videos.
- Before submitting, save your poster as a PDF file.
2. Submission of your e-poster
Access your ECSS account, here: https://www.ecss.de/ASP/MOBI/MobiLogin.asp
Follow the upload link provided behind each poster in the “submitted abstracts” section of your ECSS account.
Follow the three simple steps included in the Wizard to complete the submission of your e-poster. Depending on the file size of your e-poster and your Internet connection, the submission process may take from seconds to several minutes.
Important notice: The poster submission process described above is fully automated and maximizes the chances for successful submission of your e-poster. Furthermore, it eliminates the chance that a poster sent by email could be erroneously characterized as spam email and get lost. Therefore, only e-poster submissions through the process described above will be accepted. In case of difficulty during the submission click on the live support button.
Young Investigators Award (YIA)
All abstracts that should be considered for the YIA must be labeled appropriately on the submission form. Please check detailed information on the YIA. Please note that supplementary material must be submitted additionally to successfully apply for the YIA.
