The “Université libre de Bruxelles” (ULB) is composed of 13 faculties, schools and specialized institutes that cover all the disciplines, closely combining academic input and research. The ULB is a multicultural university with almost one third of students and researchers from abroad. International relation is a daily reality for the ULB, just like the city of Brussels itself, one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities. Four Nobel Prizes, one Fields Medal, three Wolf Prizes and two Marie Curie prizes are further evidence of the University's longstanding tradition of excellence. The ULB is an active member of the European Research Area (7th European Framework Programmes, European Research Council,...).
The Laboratory of Applied Biology and Research Unit in Applied Neurophysiology are part of the Faculty for Motor Sciences and are located on the Health Sciences campus (Erasmus campus). The laboratory has an experience of more than 35 years of research on the neuromechanics of human motor control. The current research projects focus on the central and peripheral control of various motor tasks, the age-related changes of the neuromuscular system, the adjustments of the nervous system during muscle fatigue, the adaptations to stretching, strength training and disuse, and the neural basis of techniques used in sports and rehabilitation.
