Elite Football in the Heat - Changing the Mindset

Friday 6 July, 12h50-13h40, Room BACH [download flyer]

International football competitions take place in the summer months. Elevating muscle temperature can potentially improve muscle function yet heat stress can reduce the ability to sustain exercise. How does this translate to elite football performance?

In this symposium, Aspetar and the University of Copenhagen will discuss novel data on the positive and negative changes in:

  • Performance
  • Recovery
  • Acclimatization

Ramadan and Sport: Impact on the Podium for London 2012 and beyond

Saturday 7 July, 12h50-13h40, Room BACH [download flyer]

More than 10,000 athletes will compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games. For the approximately 25% who are Muslim, these games will coincide with the Holy Month of Ramadan.

What factors will influence performance for those who choose to observe Ramadan and will there be an impact on health and performance?

This symposium will cover:

  • Current knowledge relating to the effects of intermittent daytime fasting on sports performance
  • Review the disturbances to sleep-wake patterns and possible circadian adjustements
  • Discuss strategies to maintain performance and optimize recovery during training and competition
