The Öresund region has a long tradition of high-level academic studies and research, stretching back to 1425 when the first Scandinavian university, Studium Generale, was founded in Lund. Today Lund University has approximately 40.000 students and is an acknowledged international centre for research and education. It is consistently ranked among the top 100 universities in the world. The Copenhagen University has 37.000 students and was opened as early as 1479. Since it’s foundation in 1998, the Malmö university has played a key role in the city’s development and has a current enrolment of 25 000 students. Internationalisation and diversity have always been core values for Malmö University. The university’s rapid growth and development reflects the city of which it is a part; Malmö is a city in transition, moving from an industrial past to a modern, cosmopolitan, future.

The Öresund Region unites two countries Sweden and Denmark. The city of Malmö is undergoing a transition from being an industrial city to a city of knowledge. Older industries have been replaced by investments in new technology and training programmes of high calibre. An exceptionally well developed infrastructure makes Malmö very easy to reach, whatever means of transport you use to get here: boat, plane, train or car. Malmö has an international harbour and the airports Kastrup and Sturup are only half an hour's journey from the centre of Malmö. The motorway reaches right into the city centre and Malmö has excellent rail connections with the rest of Sweden and Europe.
