- Under the age of 32 at the time of the Congress
- PhD student or equivalent or graduate less than 2 years after the PhD
- Previous prize winners cannot take part in the same category again (oral/poster)
- Congress registration1) required for first author (only the candidate may present paper as first author)
- Verification2) send in before the deadline of abstract submission (February 15th, 2009)
- Only one paper can be submitted per first author
1) Deadline for registration for presenting authors - May 15th 2009 2) Application must be verified by an authorized person (head of institute) in the applicant's department who should also certify that the investigator has made an independent and reasonable contribution to the work submitted for presentation. Also the verification must be submitted before the deadline of abstract submission (February 15th, 2009). Abstract submission will only be accepted online! Incomplete applications will not be considered for the Award! The verification plus a copy of the valid student ID including birth date must be e-mailed (Word/pdf file) or faxed to:

- They will be invited by Mars Inc. to join the YIA-Cocktail to take place in the evening on Friday, 26th of June 2009.
- In order to receive their certificate and price money all price winners will be asked to present personally at the Young Investigators Award Ceremony to take place on Saturday, 27th of June in the afternoon.
- Prize winner who do not attend and accept their prize within the framework of the YIA Ceremony on Saturday, 27th of June 2009 cannot be considered for the award prize.
YIA reviewing criteria- The work is original - ergo not published.
- The research has a relevance for sport and/or exercise and its effects on performance and/or health and/or aspects of well-being.
- The presentation (oral or poster) has been carefully prepared, is using appropriate and high quality visual means and is well organized/structured.
- High quality of technical presentation of oral or poster (delivery speed, clearly audible, varied tone, confident delivery, pointer use (oral only), correct use of scientific terminology).
- The background and relevance is clearly described.
- The work is innovative.
- The methodology is sound and the data are solid.
- There are quantitative data in the presentation, the study has enough power and appropriate statistical tests have been performed to underpin claims on significance.
- There is a clear conclusion or take home message at the end.
- The work either has a high impact for the area of research or has a potential future high impact (e.g. development of new methodologies that will generate new knowledge).
