University of Salzburg, Sport Science and Kinesiology / AUSTRIA

Dear Valued Member of our Sport Science Community,

I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones well and staying safe. As we all confront the challenges of the Coronavirus crisis, I wanted to take this opportunity on behalf of the Executive Board and ECSS staff to communicate personally with you.

We understand that this is a very difficult time for everyone. The Covid-19 virus is causing much human suffering and economic hardship on a global scale. One of the industries most battered is the conference and tourism industry. The ECSS Executive Board has done all that is possible to assess the full picture of how the virus has impacted, and can impact the College moving forward amidst the current chaos and instability.

To this effect, we have been in daily communication with our partners in Sevilla, the City of Sevilla, the Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO) - the host university, and FIBES - the conference venue. Together we have been assessing whether the City of Sevilla will be able to host large international gatherings like the ECSS Congress in the months to come and if so, when.

After careful consideration, and very detailed discussions, we have decided to reschedule the ECSS Seville 2020 Congress from 01 – 03 July 2020 to 28 – 30 October 2020. This decision was also aided by the fact that more and more countries are taking action to manage and mitigate the impact and spread of Covid-19 by imposing travel restrictions and social distancing. We are confident that with resilience and a spirit stronger than ever before, we can weather this storm and manage this situation together.

In the meantime, I hope that you and your loved ones are staying healthy. Please, help your local communities by following the guidance provided by your governments, keep washing your hands regularly and use your skills to support wherever necessary.

We are very pleased that we are now able to confirm the new dates for our meeting together in Seville and look forward to welcoming you to the Congress in October… a beautiful time of the year in southern Spain!

Yours in sport science,

Erich Müller
ECSS President
