Presenters (= first authors) must be registered and have paid the congress registration fees to guarantee publication of their abstract in the Book of Abstracts of the 25th annual congress of the European College of Sport Science –ECSS Sevilla 2020. Later registrations will lead to an exclusion of the abstract and an exclusion from the scientific programme.

Invited presentation

Invited presentations are presented by invited speakers in PowerPoint format (16:9). Invited presentations are 20 minutes with 10 minutes of Questions and Answers. Invited presentations must be pre-uploaded in the Speakers Ready Room one day in advance of your presentation (Tuesday afternoon for presentations on Wednesday). The use of your own laptop or USB is not permitted. Abstracts need to be submitted according to the defined standards of the ECSS and within the given abstract submission deadline before 3 August 2020.

Oral presentation

Oral presentation format is PowerPoint (16:9). Oral presentation time is 10 minutes plus 5 minutes of discussion. Oral presentations must be pre-uploaded in the Speakers Ready Room one day in advance of your presentation (Tuesday afternoon for presentations on Wednesday). The use of your own laptop or USB is not permitted.

Conventional print poster (debated)

Size is A0 (height: 120 cm, width 90 cm). The poster format is a portrait. Poster presentation time will be three minutes plus two minutes of discussion. Poster presentations do not require any PowerPoint presentations. All posters shall be put up in the morning of the presentation at the poster boards established and all posters have to be removed in the evening. Pre-upload is NOT required.

E-poster (not debated)

The format requires a pre-upload of an e-poster in pdf format (one slide only) in landscape (horizontal) orientation (140 cm (55 in) width x 79 cm (31 in) height). The e-poster must be pre-uploaded in advance of the congress via your ECSS account (deadline 15 October 2020). Abstracts accepted in this format will be published in the Book of Abstracts of the ECSS Sevilla 2020 congress. At the same time, the e-poster will be made available online and on screen at the 25th annual congress of ECSS Sevilla. The e-poster format can be accessed at any time during the congress, using widescreen TV's located in the general e-poster area. There is, therefore, no formal presentation time, and no formalized discussion time. If a discussion is required, presenters will be contacted directly (by email) by interested parties.

Abstract submission is through your ECSS account, exclusively. 

Abstract submission reopens 31 March 2020 and the abstract submission deadline is 3 August 2020, 11:59 CET.

Step 1

  • Enter/create your ECSS account
  • Go to “My congress data administration”
  • Submit your abstract following the link “Send an abstract” (we only accept online abstract submissions)

Step 2

  • Preview and confirm the abstract you intend to submit
  • Receive notification of acceptance in your ECSS account on 4 September 2020
  • Pay your registration fee – abstracts from accounts that have not paid the registration fee will be removed
  • Edit your personal details if needed
  • Check your registration status
  • Print your Invoice/Receipt/Letter of acceptance/Letter of presentation from your ECSS account

Formatting

Please follow the formatting instructions below when submitting an abstract.

  • Abstract must be typed into the online Abstract Submission Form acessable through your ECSS account.
  • Abstracts are restricted to 3000 characters (including spaces and references but not names or affiliations).
  • Statements like “Data will be presented and discussed” is not acceptable.
  • The content must include research that relates to sport, sports activities, physical activity or exercise. E-sport is not covered within this definition.
  • The abstract should preferably contain original data. However, well conducted systematic reviews / meta-analyses can be accepted.
  • It may not contain any tables or graphs and is restricted to ASCII-characters only*. Please note, that an abstract prepared in a programme such as Windows Word may contain non-ASCII characters. If there are references in the text, they have to be cited at the end of the abstract (they must fit in the 3000 characters).
  • All abstract content is the sole responsibility of the author(s) of the abstract.
  • You can preview your abstract during the submission process. Abstracts will be printed exactly as they appear in the preview (simple txt format).
  • Editing is only possible at this stage.
  • Receipt confirmation of your abstract submission will be sent by e-mail.

All accepted abstracts will be published in the proceedings of the 25th Annual Congress of the ECSS, preconditioned the first author has paid the registration fee.

* To make sure your abstract only contains ASCII characters, copy-paste the text first to a text-editor like Notepad, then "Save As..." and set Encoding to "ANSI".

Your registration will only be completed by payment of the registration fee.
An author may submit a maximum of one abstract as the first author. The submitted abstract must be presented at the congress by the first author. It is possible to appear as a co-author on other abstracts. Please note that after your submission has been made, further changes cannot be accepted.

Important information: Congress registration for the first author is obligatory. Not paying the registration fee will result in exclusion from the scientific programme and the Book of Abstracts.

Young Investigators Award

All abstracts that should be considered for the YIA must be labeled appropriately within the abstract submission process. Please check the detailed information on the YIA before you choose to apply for award. Please note that supplementary material and verification forms must be submitted additionally to successfully apply for the YIA.

GSSI Nutrition Award

Abstracts submitted in the area of nutrition may opt-in to apply for the GSSI Nutrition Award during the abstract submission process. Please read more here.

Travel and Health Insurance

It is strongly recommended that all participants take out insurance to cover loss (including registration fees) incurred in case of cancellation, medical expenses and damage to or loss of personal effects. The ECSS will not be responsible for any medical costs incurred by participants. The ECSS and the Local Hosts will not accept liability for personal injuries or for loss or damage to property belonging to participants, either during or as a result of the programme.
